Canadian Experience Class Immigration Program
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is an immigration category to get PR by foreign workers with Canadian work experience.
The Canadian Experience Class is a very popular category to get Canadian permanent resident status for a large number of persons who have work experience in Canada on a temporary work permit.
Canada Experience Class program identifies the benefits to Canada by candidates who have spent significant amounts of time pursuing their studies and working in Canada.
Canadian Experience Class applications are managed through the Express Entry system for immigration to Canada. Eligible candidates have to make an expression of interest for Permanent Immigration, create an online Express Entry profile, and attain an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence status before they may make an application.
CEC Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must fulfill the following minimum requirements under CEC category. Requirements are:
Must have at least one year of skilled, professional or technical work experience in Canada within 36 months of the application date; and
Meet a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 5 or 7, depending on the level of the job; and
Plan to live and work outside of the province of Quebec (individuals with Quebec work experience and have plan to reside in Quebec may apply to the Quebec Experience Class).
Applicants can stay in Canada during the application process. Though, the Canadian Experience Class is also open to individuals presently who are outside of Canada, as long as that they submit their application within three years of leaving their job in Canada.
Eligible applicants under the Canadian Experience Class typically worked in Canada in one of the following capacities:
having received a positive Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA); or
in an LMIA-exempt category; or
on an open work permit as the spouse of a partner who was working in Canada; or
on an open work permit under an international exchange program; or
on a post-graduate work permit, and completed full-time regular studies in Canada at a designated institution
Note: Self-employment and co-op work experience is not considered under Canadian Experience Class.
