Sponsorship
Canadian Sponsorship is the most generous family or friend reunification program. Family reunification remains one of the major stream of the Canadian immigration system. Achieving this goal is largely accomplished through the Family Class Sponsorship program.
Under sponsorship category, many Canadian citizens and permanent residents are allowed to sponsor their loved ones to Canada. The Canadian immigration system offers a number of ways to allow this dream to become a reality under its Family Class Sponsorship category.
Canadian citizens or a permanent resident, who are at least 18 years of age, may be eligible to sponsor members of the “family class” to become permanent residents, including spouses, common-law partners, conjugal partners, dependent children and potentially other relationships under certain Provincial Family Class Sponsorship programs. For parents and grandparents, there is also the Super Visa nbsp;program.
Sponsors are responsible for financially supporting their sponsored relatives when they come to Canada and ensuring that the relative does not need Canadian government financial assistance. If the sponsor fails to support their relatives, the sponsor may be asked to repay the money the government provides them and may not be permitted to sponsor another relative.
Moreover, the sponsor may not be able to sponsor anyone if the sponsor has defaulted on a law court support order (such as alimony or child support), received Canadian government financial assistance (for any reason other than a disability), were convicted of a violent criminal offence (or any offence against a relative or any sexual offence), defaulted on an immigration loan (failed to repay), are in prison, or have an undischarged bankruptcy.
