LIVE-IN-CAREGIVER
Live-in caregivers, who are qualified to provide care for children, elderly persons or persons with disabilities in private homes without supervision, must meet certain requirements to be eligible for the Live in Caregiver Program in Canada.
ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA FOR EMPLOYER TO HIRE LIVE-IN-CAREGIVER
be able to pay salary to Live-In-Caregiver
give them acceptable accommodation in employer home,
make a job offer for caregiving duties for a child, an elderly person or a person with a disability,
have applied for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada
Note: Employer may also hire a caregiver who is already in Canada under Live-in Caregiver Program and wants to continue working on a live-in basis. To do so, employer need to get a positive LMIA and the caregiver requires a new work permit.
ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA FOR LIVE-IN-CAREGIVER
Caregivers applying under Live-In-Caregiver must have:
Completed an education equivalent to a Canadian secondary school diploma. Areas of study could be early childhood education, geriatric care, pediatric nursing or first aid.
At least six months of full-time classroom training in caregiving activities or one year of work experience as a caregiver or in a related job within the last three years (including at least six months of ongoing work with one employer),
Able to speak, read and understand English or French
Medical, and criminal security clearances, and
A signed written employment contract with an employer in Canada.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR LIVE-IN-CAREGIVER PROGRAM
The written employment contract must consider the employment conditions that must be met. It must have details about:
Mandatory benefits payment is the responsibility, including
Transportation expenses from the caregiver’s home country to the place they will work in Canada,
medical insurance coverage expenses from the date they arrive until they are eligible for provincial/territorial health insurance,
workplace safety insurance coverage for the entire time they will be employed and
all fees paid to recruit someone, including any expense owed to a third-party recruiter or agents hired, that would otherwise have been charged to the live-in caregiver,
